Anatomy of a Stair with Definitions of the Parts

This is the process for replacing your stair and railing.

First we carefully remove the carpet.

Notice the bottom step has a wall.

This stair is a prefabricated stair. This customer wanted to have a custom large bullnose bottom step installed. So the walls on both sides had to be cut and the stair was modified to accept the extra large bullnose.

Our Metal Baluster Replacement Process
1. Find the best place to park our trailer and unload all the tools and materials.
2. Locate the best place to set up our work canopy and metal cutting saw.
3. Inside we cover the floor with 1/8" hardboard plywood, move any furniture close to the stair, pull up and move any rugs, and cover what is needed with plastic.
4. Carefully cut and remove all wooden balusters. Pulling all the nails.
5. Pull any nails and clean off any left over paint from the wooden balusters.
6. Redrill all of the holes.
7. Vacuum up all areas around the stair and the steps.
8. Go back over the pattern with the Homeowner and mark each hole with the appropritte baluster.
9. Carefully measure, mark, and cut all of the metal balusters. 
10. Glue in each baluster making sure to apply just enough epoxy to fill the hole with out overfilling.
11. Remove all plastic and the 1/8" hardboard floor covering.
12. Revacuum the stair and flooring all around the floor. We guarantee to leave the house as clean or cleaner then we found it.
13. Replace any furniture and rugs.
14. Finally we clean up the outside work area and vacuum up all the metal dust.
